MELISSA H LIND
PHOTOGRAPHY COLLECTIONS
My current work is shaped by my 14 years living in Taos, NM, where I explore themes of working-class celebration, vernacular community, neuroplasticity, and the struggle for growth. Through photography, sculpture, and land art, I aim to capture the tenacity of life in northern New Mexico’s challenging environments.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I’m particularly drawn to the niche communities in Taos—their struggles to establish roots and how these struggles influence the fabric of the community as a whole. While my work is deeply personal and rooted in a specific time and place, the themes I address—growth, togetherness, resilience, and nature—are universal and resonate with the challenges many of us face.
Raised and educated in the American Southwest in a lower-middle-class family, my mother insisted our church was nature. These early influences heavily color my approach to art and the materials I use: found materials, photography, glass, metal, wood, sand, rock, and vibrant color.
I practiced as a licensed landscape architect for a decade, and later founded and directed a creative agency for architects and builders, Dwelling Creative. My architectural photos have been published in magazines and websites nationally and my fine art work was recently chosen by SaveArtSpace.org to represent New Mexico on a billboard in New York City.
