When Trump renewed the mandate for ‘Classical’ Federal Architecture after his 2024 election essentially whitewashing politics, I was reading Full Spectrum , a book about how “the science of color made us modern”. In the book the author talks about how there is significant archeology to suggest that “Classical” white greek and roman architecture was painted with bright colors.

This sculpture WHITEWASHING ARCHITECTURE is painted white on the front only with a forced perspective of the 1950s style chair sitting in front of it. Only if you stand and walk around the sculpture can you see the vivid colors, a metaphor for the immense diversity that represents the United States and cannot be hidden, even if the perspective is forced.

When Mussolini and Hitler came to power, they both called for a return to Classical styles that referenced the Greek and Roman architecture.
