MOVE ROCKS as you like: FORWARD, BACK, SIDEWAYS, UNWIND, REWIND, REVISE
Dis/ORDER is a site-specific interactive installation. It began as precisely arranged strings and stones, like a classroom before students arrive: prepared, aligned, and waiting. One hundred river rocks, gathered from Arroyo Hondo, wrapped in white string stretched from earth to sky. Visitors were invited to move the rocks as they choose: forward, back, sideways; unwind, rewind, revise. They could restore order, create complexity, undo another person’s intervention, or shift the system somewhere entirely new. Over time, the installation became an evolving record of collective agency: part neural map, part arroyo, part constellation.
Dis/ORDER asks where intelligence and beauty emerge: through interaction, revision, contradiction, and the accumulated traces of many minds acting within a shared system.
